Creating a Story World

One of my favorite quotes comes from the Simpsons episode where Lisa and her friend Juliette create Equalia, a wonderful land full of rainbows and ponies and the like. Juliette says,

“Reality is for people who can’t imagine something better.”

As a writer, I’ve taken this to heart. Reading and writing are my escape from reality. I want to create a place where my readers can escape from life for a little while. I want them to be fascinated by the place.
